The heart is a symbol of steadfast love. Over the years the lovespoons became more elaborative and decorative, they have become collectables. There is one lady in Merthyr Tydil in South Wales who owns a collection of over four hundred spoons.

Measurements are 5.5" length x 2" width x 0.5" depth.

 As the lovespoons became more intricate the carvers would show their skill by carving different symbols into the wood.  Lovespoons are given for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, births, engagements, christenings, house warmings, St Valentines Day and Mothers Day etc.
